It is very useful for system administrators to be able to put a restriction on the editing of the Windows Registry for security reasons. This can be done with the help of the following simple registry tweak:

Step-1 Open the regedit.exe file.

Step-2 Search or scroll down to the following registry key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System

Step-3 Create a new DWORD value, DisableRegistryTools and set its data value to 1 to disable registry editing, and to enable it again.

Step-4 Exit the Windows Registry. You might have to restart the Windows session for the changes to come into effect. It is also possible to implement the above by simply creating and executing a file with sky.reg extension containing the following data:

REGEDIT4

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System
“DisableRegistryTools”=”1”

It is also possible to disable access to the Windows Registry using the Group Policy Editor (which is not available in Windows Home and Starter version) in the following manner:

Step-1 Click on the Start Orb Button and start the Group Policy Editor by typing gpedit.msc in the search box.

Step-2 Browse to the User Configuration>Administrative Templates>System and then in the right panel double click on Prevent Access to Registry Editing Tools.

Step-3 Now you can disable access to the Windows Registry. As simple as that!
