Menu

Normally you can access the Shutdown, Restart, Hibernate and Sleep option from the Start Menu. However, it is also possible to create shortcuts to these options and store them anywhere on your computer. All you need to do is:

Step-1 Right click on the desktop or in the folder where you want to create the shortcut and select NEW > SHORTCUT.

Step-2 A Create Shortcut window will pop up on the screen asking you the location to which you want to create a shortcut.

Step-3 In the location field, just type any of the below commands depending upon what kind of shortcut you wish to create.

Action Shortcut Location
Shut down Shutdown.exe –s-t 00
Restart Shutdown.exe –s-t 00
Hibernate rundll32.exe PowerProff.dll, SetSuspendState
Sleep rundll32.exe Powrproff.dll, SetSuspendState 0,1,

In this example, I want to create a shortcut to shut down my machine, so I am going to type:

Step-4 Now you have to select the name for the shortcut you just created:

Step-5 Now, if you look at the folder, then you will see a new shortcut that has been created that will allow you to quickly shut down your computer. Double click on it to shut down your computer!

It is important to note that all the shortcut commands that we discussed in the this section can also be typed directly into the MSDOS command line prompt to shutdown, restart, sleep or hibernate your computer.
