A lot of times in Windows 7 when you try to open a file that Windows does not recognize, it will prompt you to search the internet to find a relevant application that is able to recognize and open the file.

Invariably, even after using the online search feature, windows will not be able to recognize the file that you were trying to open. Overall, nobody ever really uses this feature and even when it is occasionally used by some users, it does not give any useful results.

It is possible to disable this feature by implementing the below Registry tweak:

Step-1 Open the Windows Registry.

Step-2 Browse to the following Registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer

Step-3 In the right panel, create a new DWORD value called NoInternetOpenWith and change its value to 1 to disable the Search Internet option and to 0 to enable it.
